Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens. ~The Shadow of the Wind

A World I Never Made by James LePore: Book Review

A World I Never Made

Publisher: ReadHowYouWant | Published: October 28, 2010
Kindle Edition | 384 pages | ISBN: 978-1458781239
Genre: Thriller/Mystery

I wish I could remember which blogger turned me onto this book because I want to thank that wonderful person!  A World I Never Made is a sensational thriller that will suck you in and leave you panting for more James LePore!

Imagine being somewhat estranged from your only daughter and getting the call that she has committed suicide on French soil.  Imagine journeying to France, reading the suicide note, puzzling over some of the content - like his daughter's insistence on being cremated immediately.  Then, imagine being taken to the morgue by the only seemingly compassionate detective - the sheet drawn back....and what? what is this? it's, it's not my daughter.

Thus begins A World I Never Made and Patrick's quest to find his daughter, Megan.  He is thrust into a world of violence, his only ally the compassionate and lovely detective.

I so love a good thriller.  One that has me on the edge of my seat, thinking ahead - wondering what is going to happen next - where Megan could be, if she is still alive, why she faked her death.  James LePore had me from the first line, first page with the beginning of Megan's suicide note:
I don't owe you or anybody an explanation, but I think you'll appreciate the irony of a suicide note coming from a person who has abborred tradition all of her life.
The foreshadowing, the clues, the set-up, oh, what a fantastic job Mr. LePore did with A World I Never Made.  My only complaint would be that towards the end, characters are introduced that although it is important to the story, it seemed as though they were a tidy way to end the book.  One of the characters was almost obsessed with Megan, but he was not developed in a way that the obsession furthered the storyline.  I cannot say more or reveal the character without giving away too much of the plot.  No matter, the book was still aaahh-mazing! Thank you to the blogger who recommended it! If you've read it - please tell me so I can thank you publicly!

Now, I'm off to read the rest of James LePore's books!

by the way, does anyone else do that? find an author you love and then read everything they've ever written? I am so obsessive when it comes to that! I must read it all....

Attn FTC: I purchased this book for my Kindle.
