She presents the theory that every relationship we have can be paralleled to a specific flavor of ice cream. None of us feel the same toward a single flavor, and thus will label the same relationship, or type of person, with a different flavor. For example, the author hates vanilla and thinks a vanilla type of person is a no nonsense, bland and conservative one…as is the flavor. I, on the other hand, love vanilla. It personifies simplicity and pureness in my eyes. It is a wonderful escape from the complicated and heavy world in which we live. That’s the great thing about ‘the ice cream theory,’ it can be interpreted based on your own personal experiences, likes and dislikes. It’s a wonderful little book that will make anyone seriously ponder how anything can have a parallel to an ice cream flavor. It’s written in a smart and fun style not to be duplicated by any other. The wit and personal anecdotes kept me smiling from the first page to the last. I have absolutely no beef with this book, one that is so refreshing and bubbly; you can’t help but crave your favorite flavor (in my case Moose tracks). I recommend this to anyone looking for an interesting perspective on life, love, and the pursuit of the perfect flavor.
In a side note to the author, I’ve decided what flavor your book would be: pistachio. You see I have many favorite things but I’ll pick two to make my point. I adore Italian food and reading. Italian food may be the best food on the planet, and reading, well, it’s a time for discovery and adventure…but I despise when either one of these things is disrupted. Basically, if you mess with my Italian food or my habit of reading, I will most definitely kill you. So when my Dad offered me pistachio ice cream after eating a particularly satisfying Italian meal, I blanched. Ew! How can ice cream and pistachios possibly go together (wink wink nudge nudge)? I like both pistachios and ice cream, but together sounded like a disaster. But I soldiered on and tried one bite, for Dad’s sake. After that first bite though, stopping was not an option. I was experiencing full out ice cream bliss...nothing could be better than this. Not only do I now enjoy pistachio ice cream every time I eat Italian food, but it has opened my eyes to trying new flavors even if they sound a bit dodgy. Your book has done the same for me with reading. I vow to not judge a book by its description ever again (no matter how crazy it sounds at first read). So, dear author, if you are ever in the greater Atlanta area I hope you will join me for a nice Italian dinner and a big bowl of pistachio ice cream (because I know it’s your only exception to the ‘no nuts in my ice cream’ rule).
