Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens. ~The Shadow of the Wind

Sunday Serenade: Kathy from BermudaOnion

Some bloggers are just awe-inspiring because of their understated grace and knowledge that you just want to know them - Kathy from BermudaOnion epitomizes this understated elegance.  It is my honor to serenade her this Sunday. Enjoy this tiny peek into Kathy's reading life!
Kathy and Mary Alice Monroe

What do you do when you're not blogging or reading?  When I'm not blogging or reading, I'm doing chores or going out with friends.  The chores aren't much fun, but the friends sure are.  One friend and I like to go to lunch and a movie.  A group of women from our neighborhood like to go to dinner and Carl and I have a few couples we go out with on a regular basis.  I've recently formed a book club which I'm excited about.  During the fall, I'm a big football fan and love to spend Saturday watching college ball.  My father is not doing very well, so lately, I've been spending as much time as I can at my parents' house.

Describe your favorite place to read and why you love it so much.
I'm not sure that I have one favorite place to read.  I love to read on our front porch when the weather is nice but sometimes I find all the activity in our neighborhood distracting.  I love to read in bed right before I go to sleep.

What is something we don't know about you and haven't been able to read in your "About Me" section?
Wow, this one's pretty tough, because I think overall, I'm pretty dull.  As a child, the only time I watched television was when there were dancers on.  I dreamed of being a professional dancer, yet I've never taken a single dance lesson.

Karen and Adriana Trigiani

If you could invite 3 authors over to your home (ANY authors) for a luscious beverage and the most divine cheese and yummy chocolates, who would you invite? Another tough question!  How can I pick just three?  Some of the first authors who popped into my head are Adriana Trigiani, Beth Hoffman and Mary Alice Monroe, but I've had the opportunity to eat with them and I'd want to pick someone I've never met.  I think I'd go with Barbara Kingsolver, Ferrol Sams and Anne Tyler.  I'm sure there would be some lively discussions with that group!

If your bookshelves caught on fire what 5 books would you save?  I don't have any old or particularly valuable books, so I'd grab five of my autographed books and I'd select books by authors I've met.

Name 3 songs on your playlist right now. Do you listen to music while you read?
I really don't listen to music much, but when I do it's classic rock and roll - I love groups like Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young.

Name a quality you admire in others and a quality you admire in yourself.
I admire honesty, hard work and compassion in others.  I think one of my best traits is that I never give up.

Name 3 things on your bucket list. (things to accomplish in your lifetime)
I don't really have a "bucket list," but I would like to travel more, learn more, and do something that makes a difference in the world.

Kathy, believe it or not I've always wanted to be a professional dancer too! I see myself on the stage of So You Think You Can Dance every season (in my dreams!) And folks, didn't I tell you, she is too understated - but, oh man does she know her authors, the books and writing!  You so deserve to be serenaded Kathy! Your blog is too cool for cool!

  23. Meeting Kathy was a blast at SIBA -- not only was she wonderful to get to know, but she gave some great advice for me being a newbie book blogger! I loved how she really is a gadget guru, but my husband was especially thrilled to meet her at a book show that I dragged him to, because Kathy really does know her football! He was able to be at this book show and talk football -- he certainly didn't expect that!! Kathy is wicked cool and I can't wait to see her at the next book show!! And for all of you out there who haven't had the chance to jump onto her blog, Stacy is spot on -- Kathy's blog is too cool and she does know her authors!
