Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens. ~The Shadow of the Wind

Promise Me by Richard Paul Evans: Book Review

Welcome December & all the holidays! I have a sweet Christmas story for you on this 1st day of December.  Promise Me by Richard Paul Evans brings the magic of the season along with the beauty of the love of families.

The story begins with Beth Cardall having to pick up her six year old daughter from school because she's not feeling well.  Her daughter continues to go from bad to worse as Beth discovers her husband Marc is cheating on her.  And haven't you found that bad things happen in threes?

On Christmas morning when Beth is beginning to make her daughter's favorite buttermilk-blueberry muffins, she realizes that she is out of buttermilk.  They bundle up, driving out to the local 7-eleven, the only store open on Christmas morning.  While there, Beth literally bumps heads with a stranger who introduces himself as Matthew - somehow, she keeps running into him over the next few days.  Matthew brings about a transformation in Beth's life - but at what price?

Promise Me is a charming Christmas story. This book does seem to be a bit more materialistic than his other Christmas stories; however, it is still a great beginning to the Christmas season, heart-warming and magical.

  5. Definitely a classic! I'm not sure, though, why true classics are tragic, heart-rending, and so unnaturally magical. I was a bit miffed when Beth found out who Matthew really was, but for a fiction book, this one is amazing!

Thanks for doing this review! :)
