Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens. ~The Shadow of the Wind

Literary Happenings

There are some really cool things happening around in the literary world right now that I wanted to share with you. The first one being a fantastic giveaway by Regal Literary ~

  • Regal Literary is moving, so they are cleaning out their closets...and we get to benefit from the move!  So jump on over to Regal Literary Summer Giveaway and sign up for all of their fantastic books!
  • The Southern Independent Bookseller's Alliance has announced its 2010 Book Award Winners!  I could have told you which one was going to be picked for fiction, as I'm sure you can guess if you've read it...if you haven't, well, add it to the TOP of your TBR stacks!
Children's: The Secret World of Walter Anderson by Hester Bass
Cooking: The Lee Brothers Simple Fresh Southern by Ted and Matt Lee
Fiction: The Help by Kathryn Stockett
Nonfiction: The Most They Ever Had by Rick Bragg
I've read The Help, loved it, couldn't get enough of it…. I hate to admit that I have not even heard of The Lee Brothers but it was too funny in that the description on the SIBA home page has a quote from Bobby Flay describing the sweet potato buttermilk pie as "makes me ravenous for scintillating Southern dishes." I just gave you the recipe for my granny's buttermilk pie! You can add about anything to it – sweet potatoes, chocolate chips or chocolate shavings, pecans or walnuts. Oh, I'm making myself so hungry writing this!

Have you read The Secret World of Walter Anderson? He's supposed to be one of the best unknown nature artist's in America. And The Most They Ever Had is about the mill workers in Alabama for the past 100 years. As much as I love Southern Literature I've got to get my hands on all of these books, ya know, just to make sure the judges chose the right ones *wink, wink*
  • I'm curious to know if anyone is planning on attending the SIBA Trade Show in Florida, September 24 - 26?  I am so excited to be going as I missed BEA, the Book Bloggers Conference, and the ALA Conference.
I know there's tons more happening in the lit world right now but these are a few things on my radar I wanted to share with you. Do you have any literary happenings you can add? Have a happy Monday y'all!

4 novel reactions:

  1. Tell me more about this trade show?

Totally figures that when I decide to move to North Florida something ultra cool comes to Central Florida ;)
