Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens. ~The Shadow of the Wind

Today I welcome Holly Christine with my thanks for taking the time to join us here at A Novel Source! I always love to get a more in-depth look at why an author wrote a book or what she likes/thinks/dreams.  So the questions were posed to Holly "Of your books which one has been your favorite. Which do you think has resonated most with readers and why?"

Tuesday Tell it Slant is my favorite book that I have written so far. I had a blast writing it. My office was covered with Post-it notes and timelines. I loved Tuesday. I loved that she was vulnerable enough to want to rewrite her past and strong enough to want to face it. She is a fun character and has a sense of humor. She gets caught up in what society tells her is cool and what other people think of her, and loses her own ambitions and desires in the process. She learns about herself. She grows. Some people say that writers include a bit of themselves in every character they develop. I included one piece of myself in Tuesday: neither of us can parallel park. It is a miracle that I passed my driving exam.

While Tuesday is my favorite, I would say that The Nine Lives of Clemenza has resonated most with readers. The theme throughout the book is attempting to live a meaningful life, and I think most people strive to do so. Clemenza faces many hiccups during her lives and I think that because Clemenza has to face so many obstacles, more readers can relate to her. There is something deep within our souls that desires to connect to others, or maybe even other things, and TNLC explores this desire. Clemenza becomes parts of life that many of us don’t consider, or realize, is a part of our world. It explores the understanding that all of us are part of a larger system. Not to be all John Mayer-ish, but we are all bigger than our bodies, a part of something larger, and I think many people find that possibility or that hope appealing. Daily stresses seem trivial when you think of the systems of life that occur all around us everyday.

Thank you Holly for sharing about both of your books. I loved the snippets of Tuesday trying to parallel park! I could most definitely relate - especially when trying to park my giant of a truck in a tiny city space - impossible!!!

I'm the worst parallel parker. I try to tell Mr. Whimsy, "But we don't have to parallel park in Florida. There's always another way."

    Great post!
