Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens. ~The Shadow of the Wind

Hey Y'all - Welcome to the Hop!

Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop, a crazy-fun meme hosted by none other than our wonderful Jennifer at Crazy for Books! Each Friday we hop around from book blog to book blog visiting old friends and making new ones! I hope you'll join in if you haven't already!

Slip off your shoes, turn some Buddy Holly on and let's dance!

One additional requirement, we must answer one question in our post so our fellow peeps can get to know us a bit better ~ this week's question:

Tell us about some of your favorite authors and why they are your favorites!

That's one of the hardest questions in the world to ask a book blogger I think! I admire anyone who can and does get published time after time again. And someone who can keep me reading into the wee hours of the morning definitely has me hooked! Unfortunately, that's a long list! I'll give you my top 5!

  1. Stieg Larsson (shhh, don't tell anyone, but I'd marry him if he hadn't had a sudden heart attack.... and if he wasn't already taken..... oh, and if he wasn't in a really dangerous job!)
  2. Karen White (never ceases to surprise me with her twisting plots and character development)
  3. Madeleine L'Engle (childhood favorite, love her children's books, tween – teen books, adult stories and poetry….her thoughts and ideas about God, life and family got me through my teen years)
  4. Ok, I have to throw in a tie here – James Rollins and Steve Berry. I love them both equally. Both have amazing heroes and historical facts throughout their books. James is from California, Steve from Georgia. And if you look at their author pictures, well, you'd be sold too…..
  5. Kathleen McGowan (her Magdelene series has been so beautifully written, with history documented throughout, how could you not fall in love with her books)
Those are a few of my faves. I cannot wait to read about yours! Have a fantastically cool weekend!

A tremendous thank you to Jennifer at Crazy for Books for hosting the Book Blogger Hop each week. It's been such a wonderful way to find new blogs to read! I hope you're enjoying it as much as I am!!!

  and now for my ~
Friday's Book Beginning

The Last Queen: A Novel

Midnight has become my favorite hour.

The sounds of the night are less intrusive, the shadows like a familiar embrace. By the light of a single candle, my world seems much larger than it is, as large as it once was. I suppose it is the bane of mortality to suffer time as it narrows and confines, to know that never again will anything seem as wide, as open as attainable as it did in our youth.
Oh, what a gorgeous book! The first few pages had me hooked! This is the story of the 3rd child of Queen Isabel and King Ferdinand of Spain.  Juana of Castile "is the last queen of Spanish blood to inherit her country's throne."  Stay tuned for my review next week!
