Do you have a favorite book turned into a television series? Seems like so many shows these days are coming from books which I think is fantastic! My latest favorite is Haven on the SyFy channel. It's based on the Stephen King novel The Colorado Kid.
Another new series that just started a couple of weeks ago is Rizzoli & Isles on TNT. This television series is based on Tess Gerritson's novels of whom I adore! Her books are fast-paced and breathless! Unfortunately I have not had time to watch the tv series so if anyone can chime in on how its going that would be fantastic!
And we cannot forget Castle. The paperback of Heat Wave
just came out, July 27th, and Richard Castle's latest hardback, Naked Heat
, comes out September 28th. You can read the first chapter here. Season 2 of the television series starts back September 20th! Are you a Castle fan? Have you read the book(s)? Who's your favorite - Castle or Beckett?
Now for my Young Adult fans out there ~ do you watch Gossip Girl on the CW? Have you read the books
And we all know how famous vampires are these days and have been for quite some time. The Vampire Diaries
by L.J. Smith became an overnight hit television series with its brooding young cast. Are you a fan of The Vampire Diaries on the CW? Is it as awesome as all the reviewers say?
This has been the first season of Pretty Little Liars on ABC. The tv series is based on the best-selling books by Sara Shepard, Pretty Little Liars
, et al. I do have to admit that I have a thing for mysteries if you had not figured that out by now and the trailers I've seen on this one are so filled with intrigue, secrets, lies and of course tons of mystery! I may just have to try to find a way to watch this one! Tell me, my darlings, is it worth it? Is this one a really good show to invest my time on, because I do not have a lot of television time. So I need some grand advice here!
I know there are plenty, plenty more books turned into television series that I have left off so feel free to give me a shout out so I can to the list. I've only included the wildly popular ones that had fantastic ratings and reviews and did not bomb after the first few shows. Now I did start off with Haven although it has only technically had 4 shows but the ratings and reviews are top notch (and I LOVE, love, love this show!) So add to the list, tell me what you think of the ones I've chosen, or like me, do you not watch tv much, if at all?
Addendum:
I have had some incredible comments from my lovely novel sources, of whom have given me lots of suggestions of books into tv series that I had left off. Thank you, thank you, thank you! If you think of anymore, let me know!

From Juju at Tales of Whimsy I received this suggestion: Sanctuary
From Kathy at Bags, Books and Bon Jovi I received two suggestions:
Pillars of the Earth
mini-series on Starz
From Hilde at The Turn of the Page I received this suggestion: Firefly
And a huge, huge thank you to Hilde for answering the Bones question for me...
the tv series is based on Temperance Brennan novels
by Kathy Reichs
There's also True Blood based on The Southern Vampire novels
by Charlaine Harris and the Women's Murder Club
novels by James Patterson

I'm loving Haven!
ReplyDeleteI ADORE Castle and look forward to the next book.
I'm also a huge Sanctuary junkie!
I'm not sure if this counts but, so far, I love the Starz miniseries adaptation of one of my favorite novels, The Pillars of The Earth.
ReplyDeleteI also love Dexter but they really strayed from the novels. I'm not complaining, though. I like each... but differently, KWIM?
Haven = my new love! LOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteRizzoli & Isles -- I love Tess Gerritsen's stories so much, that I was actually a bit disappointed in the series. A bit too campy and overtly girlish to me -- not quite the tough grittiness that Rizzoli & Isles truly delve into at all. Not to mention that I love the 2 actresses separately from this show, however. However, however. I must be honest and admit that sadly, I don't like their selection for Maura Isles on the show -- in the books, she's the fashionable black-haired "Queen of the Dead!" On the show, she's just fashionable, and more sorority-esque.
Great subject and post, Stacy!
ReplyDeleteI really don't get to watch much tv unless it's something on Netflix..got rid of cable to save $$$. I do adore 30Rock but it's not based on anything, but there's a ton of references to pop culture and books and movies, so that's sort of fun.
Rizzoli & Isles is doomed, I think. There's just something about it that looks done before, repeatedly. I've heard the books are great and I like Angie Harmon, but seriously, medical examiners are getting a bit common. I think we have Patricia Cornwell to thank for that.
Hugs!
I love, love, love Castle (are you a Firefly fan too?), but haven't read the books yet. I've also heard so many good things about Tess Gerritsen's Rizzoli & Isles books, but haven't read any them yet either (The Surgeon might just be my next read). I adore Angie Harmon, and can't wait until the TV series reach Norway. I also liked Women's Murder Club, both the short-lived TV series and the one book I've read so far.

ReplyDeleteThis might sound strange. But I actually don't like television lol. Though I am interested in Vampire Diaries.
ReplyDeleteI just started my own blog. Please stop by if you can. Thank you

I am in love with "Dexter" ... and actually prefer the TV show to the books! Blasphemy, I know, but it is true!
ReplyDeleteI really want to check out True Blood as well.
