Every book, every volume you see here, has a soul. The soul of the person who wrote it and of those who read it and lived and dreamed with it. Every time a book changes hands, every time someone runs his eyes down its pages, its spirit grows and strengthens. ~The Shadow of the Wind

Sunday Serenade!

If you have never met Jenners from Find Your Next Book Here then jump on over there! She is the funniest blogger out here folks! If I'm ever having a bad day, then Jenners is who's blog I go to first and I always get a laugh. It can be a review of the most serious book like Fingersmith by Sarah Waters and Jenners has me rolling in the floor over her comparisons to Mission Impossible and Fight Club! I've read enough reviews about this book to know that it is so not either of those movies but the way she tied it into her review is just priceless!  Read on to learn more about this fantastic lady and wonderful mom!

What do you do for a living?
I work around the clock providing childcare, preparing meals, cleaning the house, restocking pantry shelves, maintaining the yard, ensuring financial balance for household accounts and running errands for little or no pay and no time off. In other words, I'm a stay-at-home mom.

What drew you to book blogging? How long have you been blogging?

I've been blogging for about 1.5 years now. I've always been a reader so when I discovered blogging (through a friend of mine who had a blog), it was only natural that I would want to blog about books. I actually have two blogs: one about books and one where I write about my life (making sure to exploit every possibly amusing and/or humiliating thing that has ever happened to me).

What do you do when you're not blogging or reading?

See the answer to the first question!! There is ALWAYS some kind of task that needs to be done around the house. At least 4 hours of my day is spent with my son doing whatever HE wants to do ... so lately I've gotten pretty good at Super Mario Brothers Wii.

Describe your favorite place to read and why you love it so much.

Frankly, I'll take any place I can just sit and relax and read in peace and quiet. I'm not picky!

What book have you re-read the most times? Even if it's not your 'favorite book, but the one that keeps you coming back to.
I'm not a big rereader by nature (there are just too many books out there waiting to be read for the first time). However, there is this one book called "Gig: Americans Talk About Their Jobs" that I reread every few years because it is so interesting and there are so many different stories that it almost seems like a new book whenever I revisit it.

What is something we don't know about you and haven't been able to read in your "About Me" section?
Well, if you read my personal blog, you probably know more about me than you EVER wanted to know ... and then some. How about this ... I was once on a competitive canoeing team.

If you could invite 3 authors over to your home (ANY authors) for a luscious beverage and the most divine cheese and yummy chocolates, who would you invite?

Oooohhh...I love this question. Has Brad Pitt written any books, though? No? OK. First, I think Michael Chabon. I just read (and adored!) his book "Manhood for Amateurs" and I think he would be fascinating to talk to and we would have tons to talk about (even though it would probably end up being our children). I think Jen Lancaster would be fun to hang out with, and I'd totally pick her brain about blogging and being able to make a living by writing hilarious memoirs about your life -- she has the career that I want! (Perhaps I'll slip a little something into her dessert and assume her identity!) And definitely Christopher Moore. I "discovered" him last year and think he is hilarious so I imagine his sense of humor would carry over into real life. Gosh ... now I totally wish this could happen!!!

If your bookshelves caught on fire what 5 books would you save?

My childhood copy of The Velveteen Rabbit, the copy of The Elements of Style that my dad gave me when I went off to college, my copy of Gifts from the Sea that my mom gave me, my dad's copy of Where The Mountain Casts Its Shadow that my brother inscribed and gave to me after my dad died, and a copy of The Illustrated Rumi that my brother gave me as a wedding present and wrote a really cool note in.

Name 3 songs on your playlist right now. Do you listen to music while you read?
I do not listen to music when I read. I find it terribly distracting. However, I love listening to music when I clean the house as it makes the time go by faster. (The best song to clean the bathroom to: Bitch by the Rolling Stones). Lately, I've been obsessed with these three songs: Kandi by One Eskimo, Party in the U.S.A. by Miley Cyrus (a bit embarrassing but what can I say ... I really dig this song!!) and Defying Gravity from the Glee soundtrack.

Name a quality you admire in others and a quality you admire in yourself
.
In others, I admire willpower (as I seem to have none or misplaced mine). In myself, I admire my curiosity.

Name 3 things on your bucket list.
I don't technically have one but I should work on this. However, three things I would include are: ride a Segway, scuba dive, and see all the wonders of the Ancient World.

I loved your Michael Chabon review! So freaking hilarious!!! And I had never been a Chabon fan before ~ but I had to go check out Manhood for Amateurs after your recent review! And Miley Cyrus' song Party in the U.S.A. that has a great beat and punchy lyrics! We're always be-bopping in the truck when that song comes on so I can totally relate!

Can you all see what I'm talking about? Isn't she awesome? And so worthy of being serenaded? Let's all Party in the World for Jenners today and for all mothers who most definitely need serenading every day!
Thank you J. for being my guest today for the Sunday Serenade! You ROCK!!!

  1. Thank you for having me!! It was fun to do. But I'm still sad that I don't get to have Michael Chabon, Jen Lancaster and Christopher Moore over for dessert. Sigh!

  4. Excuse me, but as a blogger, I think I qualify (veerrrrrry loosely) as a writer, and therefore I DEMAND to be included in the party with "luscious beverage and the most divine cheese and yummy chocolates!" I mean, you can still have Brad Pitt (he signs autographs, therefore he writes) and I'll let Michael Chabon come too. (Although, can he write as well as me and Brad?) Am looking forward to receiving my invitation in the mail! Can't wait!!!!!!
