Teaser Tuesday!

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin
320 pages
Harper Publisher
ISBN: 0061583251

My research had revealed that challenge and novelty are key elements to happiness. The brain is stimulated by surprise, and successfully dealing with an unexpected situation gives a powerful sense of satisfaction. If you do new things - visit a museum for the first time, learn a new game, travel to a new place, meet new people - you're more apt to feel happy than people who stick to more familiar activities.

I'm thinking maybe I should change the title of my Tuesday posts to The Happiness Project rather than Teaser Tuesdays! I do like to update you on where I'm at as that kind of keeps me accountable to my happiness project, if that makes any sense at all.

I picked this quote from the March chapter because that's where I'm stuck.....trying new things. I don't know if I'm really stuck or if my blog counts or not. I really got started on it in January and I feel like every day I'm trying something different with it....trying to comment more on other blogs, making my comments meaningful, starting the Georgia Ning Network, trying out Twitter (which is kind of cool, still a big giant scary thing but still neat), getting more involved on Book Blogs, signing up for author interviews/reviews/etc. and doing a giveaway. So I guess those are all pretty new things, especially for this Georgia girl who knows her way around Word but the internet is a vast ocean of unknowningness! But I haven't visited any museums lately nor met any new people....well, nope, I take that back...I've met tons of new people....just all online!

So how about you? Have you found that when you step out into the unknown that you get more excited, devote more energy, time, and sheer willpower to your new project or undertaking? Are we hard-wired to get thrilled about learning a new skill or information. What are your thoughts?
