I started this blog because I wanted to find other book-lovers who could possibly share my passion for all things books and walk with me down the road to opening my own bookstore. I have been awed and humbled by those who read my blog and offer their friendship and support in the book blogging world.I do not have many policies when it comes to reviewing ~ I have a few guidelines and information that might help you decide if A Novel Source is a good fit for your book. With that said, I will read just about anything, but I do NOT like to give a book a bad review. I will be honest and forthright in my review. I am not the type of reader or blogger who likes to trash someone else's work. I would much prefer to let you know I cannot finish the book or that I have deemed the book less than sufficient (grade of a 1 - 2) for my tastes. I do realize book reviews are primarily subjective. If you still want me to publish my review after notifying you of it being a bad review then I will, along with this caveat.
Books & Format:
What I like ~ My favorite genres of books are as follows, in no particular order:
Mysteries, Thriller/Suspense - but not horror, Literary Fiction, Christian Fiction, Christian Non-Fiction, Young-Adult and Children's Picture Books.
What I do not like ~ I'm not a big fan of science fiction or horror. I also do not read a lot of Romance nor Erotica. I've been out of the business field for awhile so I try not to read too many Business books or Self-Help.
How I like it ~ I will gladly accept the following types of books: Hardcover or Paperback is the preferred method; I am fortunate to have an iPad and can accept your book via my e-reader. I do not like to read books in PDF-format unless it's on my iPad so please do not email me your book unless specifically requested to do so.
My review ratings:
B ~ Beautiful
C ~ Caution
D ~ Damaged
F ~ Frankly My Dear, don't bother...
How do I review?
I am trying to come up with some semblance of a uniform review system. I personally read every book I am sent to review. If I cannot get through the first 100 or so pages, then I will let you know I will not be able to complete a review of your book. I will be happy to ask one of my book blogger friends if they might be interested in reviewing your book if it just did not feel to be a good match for me.
I will review every book I am sent if it is with the understanding it is for a review. I do NOT review every book I read. I simply do not have time. I do receive a good number of books to review from publishers and authors, but I still hang out in the bookstores and am known to spend way more than I should! I've read a quote somewhere about who needs food if we've got books ~ well, that's me!
When I do write the review, I will focus on setting, characters and plot as to how I break down the overall rating. I like to give my summary along with some "fantabulous" quotes. I think a few quotes can go a long way!
I would love to have you in my author spotlight by either having you on A Novel Source during a blog tour, doing a post-review interview (giving your book additional attention), or by having you be my "Guest Blogger" for the day!
I will post my review to Amazon, Goodreads or Library Thing unless it is otherwise requested.
